Cape Emine
Cape Emine is a protected area of the “natural landmark” category. It was announced as such in 1976.
The European pedestrian route E-Z ends on Emine, the Bulgarian part of which is the route “Kom – Emine”. North of the cape is the protected area Irakli.
Emine is an almost vertical 60-meter rock, surrounded by hundreds of underwater and protruding rocks, scattered into the sea for more than 250 meters. That is why the coast here is extremely dangerous for shipping and sailors go around it from afar. There is an active lighthouse there.
In the area of Cape Emine there are remains of a medieval monastery and the fortress Emona. Its name comes from the ancient Greek name of the Balkan Mountains – Aemon. The nearby village of Emona has the same name.
